Design and Implementation Projects Virginia Client Challenge This two-year engagement involved the redesign of all patient care processes in a 100,000-annual-visit ED, including an academic department of pediatric emergency medicine. It required the integration of five disparate emergency rooms, job redesign, patient tracking, bedside registration implementation, and redesign of all patient care registration and documentation processes. Achievement EMPATH's medical director and QI physician director were both on site. Twenty academic emergency physicians were recruited, and critical pathways were implemented. EMPATH's on-site financial director assumed responsibility for all coding processes. Documentation, coding processes, and charge masters were redesigned, resulting in an increase of $8 million in annual incremental revenue for the hospital. Overall ED length of stay decreased by 10%. |
