EMPATH and its Texas client addressed emergency department and inpatient throughput and flow, with the goal of eliminating ED crowding, reducing cycle times, and optimizing the inpatient units' capacity to receive and discharge patients. During this project:
  • Staff trained on numerous new patient care processes, including high census protocol, team-based care, backup systems and admission/discharge processes.
  • New patient care concepts were deployed throughout the hospital, including: interlocking accountability, flawless handoffs of the patient, and the hard-wiring of management.
  • EMPATH software was implemented to support the designed processes – allowing staff to measure, monitor and manage performance more efficiently and with greater transparency.

Client Redesigns Operations, Then Delivers "30-Minute Promise"

"We have transformed our entire hospital to make this happen."
Chief Executive Officer

Nine months after beginning a hospital operations transformation project with EMPATH in January 2009, our client in Texas is now delivering on its "30-Minute Promise."

The Promise ensures that every patient in the emergency room will be seen by a physician or physician assistant within 30 minutes of check-in.

Read how our client transformed its patient care processes and used supporting technology to deliver on the Promise.

"We've really looked at every process throughout the entire hospital to redefine the way we deliver care to our patients."
