Charge Nurse In Charge!
The charge nurse is the true manager of the ED, resolving obstacles and eliminating barriers that frustrate both patients and staff. Coordinating teams of ED constituents, the charge nurse functions as "air traffic controller" with the tools and authority to allocate resources and optimize operations. Interlocking accountability, timelines and thresholds for all the ED sub-processes ensure an efficient, streamlined process that keeps the patient informed and decreases overall length of stay. Results include a dramatically reduced rate of ambulance diversion as well as increased throughput and patient satisfaction.
